Title: Intel Arc B580 Graphics Card Random Freezing Issue

TaiwanLouis

I am experiencing an issue with the Intel Arc B580 graphics card, where the system randomly freezes without warning.

This problem occurs during normal usage, especially while playing games such as MapleStory and other PC games. When the freeze happens, the screen becomes unresponsive, but audio may continue playing in the background, and the system does not recover on its own.

I have tested multiple driver versions, including:

  • Intel Graphics Driver v32.0.101.8132 (WHQL)

Unfortunately, the freezing issue still occurs across these driver versions.

Additionally, the issue becomes more frequent and more severe when Resizable BAR (ReBAR) is enabled in the motherboard BIOS. After disabling ReBAR, the freezing happens less often, but the problem is not completely resolved.

This behavior makes the system unstable for gaming and daily use. I hope Intel can further investigate the compatibility between the Arc B580, driver versions, and Resizable BAR support.

If anyone has experienced a similar issue or found a stable driver or BIOS configuration, please feel free to share your solution.

Hi TaiwanLouis,

I hope you’re doing well, and thank you for getting back to me! To assist with further analysis and investigation, could you please provide details on the following:

  1. SilverStone 650W PSU Model – The exact model number is important because the Arc B580 requires substantial power (190W TGP), and combined with your i7-12700 (65W base, up to 180W boost), your PSU may be operating near its limit.
  2. Memory Configuration – You have 32GB in a single DIMM (Kingston KHX3200C16D4/32GX), but it’s running at 2400 MT/s instead of the rated 3200 MT/s. Have you enabled XMP/DOCP in BIOS to achieve the correct speed?
  3. BIOS Mode – Your BIOS is currently in Legacy mode. Have you tried switching to UEFI? Legacy BIOS can sometimes cause compatibility issues with modern GPUs.
  4. BIOS Version – You’re on version 1.M0 (April 2025). Please update to the latest version for your motherboard: 7D43v1N1. Here is the link for your reference: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/PRO-B660M-A-DDR4/support
  5. Driver Rollback – Since the issue worsened with driver 32.0.101.8331, could you roll back to the previous version and test for a few days?
  6. Temperature Monitoring – Please install HWiNFO64 and monitor GPU temperatures during the next freeze. Even light tasks can trigger instability if overheating occurs.
  7. PCIe Settings – In BIOS, what PCIe generation is your GPU slot set to (PCIe 3.0/4.0/Auto)? Have you tried manually setting it to Gen 3.0 to check if stability improves?

If you have any questions or need clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I have already tested the following driver versions: gfx_win_101.8136, gfx_win_101.8250, gfx_win_101.8247, and gfx_win_101.8331, and all of them exhibit the same freezing issue.

Hi TaiwanLouis,

I hope you are doing well and thank you for getting back! For further investigation of the issue, please answer the following questions:

  1. How old is this PSU? The Arc B580 (190W) + i7-12700 (up to 180W) + system components could be pushing this 650W unit to its limits, especially if it's aging.
  2. Can you use DDU to completely remove the current driver 32.0.101.8331 and install the older 32.0.101.8132 version that you mentioned had fewer issues? Test this for several days. Here is the link for your reference: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/785597/865175/intel-arc-graphics-windows.html
  3. Have you installed HWiNFO64 or GPU-Z to monitor temperatures? What are your GPU temps during: Idle, Light gaming, and The moment before/during a freeze?
  4. Can you run Windows Memory Diagnostic or MemTest86 overnight to rule out RAM issues?
  5. Do you have another 32GB stick to test dual-channel configuration, or can you borrow a smaller kit (2x16GB) to test?
  6. When the system freezes with "display frozen but audio continues," can you move the mouse cursor? (Does it move but screen doesn't update?) and can you hear system sounds/notifications continuing?
  7. Can you test with a different PSU (700W+ from a friend) for a few days? This would definitively rule out power delivery issues.

If you have any questions or need further clarification, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Thank you for your detailed suggestions. I will respond point by point below for clarity:

PSU aging concern
The system freezes even when I am only browsing the web, without gaming or heavy load.
This issue does not occur when I use other graphics cards in the same system.
Based on this, I believe PSU aging or insufficient wattage can reasonably be ruled out.

DDU and driver testing
I have already used DDU multiple times to completely remove the drivers and tested several older versions.
The freezing issue still occurs on all of them, including versions newer than gfx_win_101.6325 / 101.6252.
Only gfx_win_101.6325 / 101.6252 works normally without freezing.
I purchased this graphics card this year, and the issue did not exist when I first installed it.
The problem only started after updating to newer Intel drivers, which strongly suggests a driver-related regression.

Temperature monitoring
What temperature range do you consider abnormal for the Arc B580?
I have spent a significant amount of time monitoring temperatures and stress testing, but no thermal abnormalities were found.
If temperatures were the root cause, the issue should also appear on older drivers.
Why does gfx_win_101.6325 / 101.6252 operate normally under the same temperatures?

Memory diagnostic testing
Please clarify what you consider a “passing” standard for overnight memory tests.
I have already invested a large amount of time testing system stability.
Again, if RAM were the issue, the freezing should also occur on gfx_win_101.6325 / 101.6252, which it does not.

Freeze behavior details
When the system freezes with “display frozen but audio continues”:

The mouse cursor cannot be moved

System sounds and notifications continue

Discord voice chat continues to function normally

This behavior strongly indicates a GPU display driver hang, not a system-wide crash or power issue.

Testing with another PSU
I do not have access to another PSU at the moment.
If I need to purchase a new PSU solely for testing, at that point I would realistically consider purchasing a different graphics card instead.

Given all the above, the evidence consistently points to a driver issue introduced after gfx_win_101.6325 / 101.6252, rather than hardware, power, temperature, or memory problems.

I would appreciate further investigation on why newer driver versions cause this issue while 101.6325 / 101.6252 remains stable.

Thank you for your assistance.
