I am trying to run inference using the VPU on my surface laptop studio 2. However I am confused about which version of the toolkit to use. None of them seem to fit, since 2023 no longer supports VPU, I can't get any of the 2022 versions to work, and 2021 doesn't support Windows 11. Can someone please help me understand how I should go about getting inference on my VPU to work?
Thanks!

Hi Hhsch,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
Yes, you are correct. OpenVINO™ toolkit 2023 releases no longer support Intel® Movidius™ VPU. The latest supported OpenVINO™ release for Movidius™ VPU is the 2022.3.1 LTS, as mentioned in the 'New and Changed in 2022.3.1 LTS' section in the OpenVINO™ Toolkit 2022.3 LTS Release Notes page. You can download the OpenVINO™ 2022.3.1 LTS here and refer to the guide on how to Install OpenVINO™ Runtime on Windows.
On the other hand, the Surface Laptop Studio 2 Full tech specs (This is an external link and is not maintained by Intel®) show that the device is powered by the Processor:
- 13th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-13700H Processor
- Intel® Gen3 Movidius 3700VC VPU AI Accelerator.
Can you confirm with us if these are the correct CPU and VPU configurations for your device?
Regards,
Megat

Hello Megat,
Thanks for your reply.
I followed the instructions for 2022.3.1 (including those specific to the VPU) but had no success in getting the VPU to be recognized. The “hello query devices” app did not show the VPU as an available device.
The device specs you mentioned are correct.

Hi Hhsch,
Thank you for your patience.
For your information, as of now, The Gen 3 Intel® Movidius™ VPU product is only available and supported via our value added partners. We would like to know if you have access to the hardware through one of these partners. We will reach out to you separately via email to continue this discussion.
