How to use and detect Movidius/NCS2 in 2023?

Hi! I've been working with OpenVINO using the latest toolkit, on Windows. I'd like to try with the NCS2 and a dual-Movidius mPCIE device, but am unable to get them to be detected as available devices by OpenVINO's Core.

The [instructions here](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/articles/guide/get-started-with-neural-compute-stick.html) Are out of date, and N/A for the current OpenVINO.

I have OpenVINO installed using PyPI, and using the Archive. How can I test the NCS2 is working, and troubleshoot why only "GPU" and "CPU" are shown as available devices? (I believe it should show "MYRIAD" or "MOVIDIUS".) How can I confirm the hardware is working and recognized by my PC? Are there any drivers to install? Thank you!

Hi The_Alchemist,

As of the OpenVINO™ 2023.0 release, support has been canceled for all VPU accelerators based on Intel® Movidius™.

You can refer to the OpenVINO™ Toolkit Release Notes 2023.0 under the 'Support Change and Deprecation Notices' subsection under the 'New and Changed in 2023.0' section for more information. The following devices therefore are no longer supported by OpenVINO™ Runtime:

  • Intel® Neural Compute Stick 2
  • Intel® Vision Accelerator Design with Intel® Movidius™ Vision Processing Units (HDDL)
  • AI Edge Computing Board with Intel® Movidius™ Myriad™ X C0 VPU, MYDX x 1

On another note, OpenVINO™ 2022.3.1 Release offers support for Python 3.7 - 3.10 64-bit only as mentioned on the System Requirements page under the 'Software' tab. Python 3.11 is only supported in the latest 2023 Releases.

Hi The_Alchemist,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

For your information, OpenVINO™ toolkit 2023 releases no longer support Intel® Movidius™ VPU. The latest supported release for Movidius™ VPU is the OpenVINO™ 2022.3.1 LTS. You can refer to the 'New and Changed in 2022.3.1 LTS' section in the Release Notes for OpenVINO™ Toolkit 2022.3 LTS for more information.

On the other hand, you can download the OpenVINO™ 2022.3.1 LTS here and refer to the guide on how to Install OpenVINO™ Runtime on Windows from an Archive File. Hope this helps.

Megat

Thank you for the information. 2 questions:

#1: A link about NCS2 replacements links to [this Vision Acccelerator VPU](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/developer/topic-technology/edge-5g/hardware/vision-accelerator-movidius-vpu.html) as a replacement. This would still be unsupported on new versions, right?

#2: It appears 2022.3.1 is available as an Archive, but for Python, is only available for Python versions <=3.10. Is there a way to install it for use with Python 3.11? Thank you.
