Largest angle reported in 'head-pose-estimation-adas-0001'

Hi,

I am using the intel model 'head-pose-estimation-adas-0001'. This model outputs estimated yaw, pitch and roll angles for faces in degrees (angle_y_fc, angle_p_fc, angle_r_fc respectively).

Could you please tell me what is the largest possible angle that could be reported back by this model. Your description states that the supported ranges are: YAW [-90,90], PITCH [-70,70], ROLL [-70,70], but would these indicate the largest angles that could possibly be returned by the model?

Thank you very much for your help,

peter

Hi Peter,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

As mentioned in the head-pose-estimation-adas-0001 documentation page, the estimator outputs yaw pitch and roll angles measured in degrees. Do note that the results of the pose estimation can be affected by multiple factors (clarity of image, resolution, lighting, etc.).

Hence, the supported angles are validated to be able to achieve up to the following:

  • Yaw: -90°, 90°
  • Pitch: -70°, 70°
  • Roll: -70°, 70°

For your information, you can try out the pose angles using Gaze Estimation Demo and observe the result. Press the "O" key when running the demo to toggle displaying head pose information.

Hairul

Thank you Hairul!

I'll definitely try the Gaze Estimation Demo. So just to confirm, head-pose-estimation-adas-0001 will not ever report degrees 91 or higher. In other words, the maximum degree ever reported by this model would be 90 degrees, correct? Thank you for confirming.

Hi Peter,

As previously mentioned, the model is supposed to be able to achieve up to the stated angles. However, the results of the pose estimation can be affected by multiple factors (clarity of image, resolution, lighting, etc.).

From my testing, the stated angles should be considered as extreme angles and are hard to obtain. You can try out from your end using Gaze Estimation Demo and observe the result.
