Quad/Grid Interpolation

Simple question, how does rtcInterpolate handle interpolation on Quad-Mesh and Grid-Mesh geometries? Does it bilinearly interpolate between the four corners or, does it use barycentric interpolation across a triangulated version of the mesh?
