11.1 Install Problem

New HP p6210y fresh out of the box, Windows 7 plus latest SPs. 11.1 Install error "1719: Windows Installer Service could not be accessed". The FortranProfessional.Log is located here:

Please point me in the right direction. This appears to me to be an OS issue (I guess).

A Google search on this error message indicates that indeed something is wrong with Windows, or you are running in Safe Mode (which I figure is unlikely.) I can find this thread in which a MS representative offers a possible solution, though some users report it did not work for them. Let me know how it goes.

Hmmm, darn it...well the service wasn't running, but when I started it, same error. I get no errors when starting the service. I changed it to start automatically at startup, don't know why it was set to manual...no joy, guess I have a wasted weekend debugging coming up.

Rinstalled windows...now I get "error: No VS2008 shell found" (or something like that).

Which installer did you download? What is its full file name?

I reinstalled Windows 7 from CD with "download latest updates from the internet" enabled. It will be the latest version of V5. I just downloaded the "VS 2008 shell integrated" version and that didn't work, in process of downloading "VS 2008 shell isolated" to try that.

Sigh - I had another customer who ran into this. It is an error in a Microsoft installer. Can you install this?

I had already tried that but didn't work. I finally downloaded 3.3gb trial version of VS 2008 and got it to install.
