C interoperability with global

The html docs which come with ifort give an example of iso_c_binding interoperability with global data. Similar material is elaborated in the errata notes for MR&C "Fortran 95/2003 Explained." There are plenty of examples on line of near-standard legacy interoperability between COMMON and extern struct. With so many choices, I'm not inclined to learn a special legacy Visual Studio way.
Sure hope this forum bug about no replies gets fixed.
