Recently I bought computer with prescott 2.8 processor.
I am facing very strange problem with this. If I keep my computer ON for few hours, RPM of its CPU fan increases suddenly from 4000 to 5000 RPM and even more. As a result this fan creates lot of noice, and with that virtually I am not able to sit on my computer for long.
I really dont have much knowlege in computers. I want to know is this the problem with this specific CPU fan? Is there any way out to solve this problem? Please suggest something.
Thanks

Shalini,
You have posted your question to a forum dedicated to the Intel Fortran compiler for Linux. We can't help with hardware-related problems here. Unfortunately, at this time, we don't have processor-related user forums.
An external forum I have found personally useful for troubleshooting processor-related problems is ABXZone. I suggest you ask your question there.

As I mentioned above, this is not a hardware forum. See my earlier post for suggestions.
As it happens, I recently put together a new system to replace an older Pentium 4 system. I used the Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 CPU and the Asus P5B-Deluxe motherboard (Intel P965 chipset.) It works very nicely. Note that you will need new memory and a new graphics adapter (unless you buy a different motherboard with integrated graphics, such as based on the Intel G965). This is personal advice only, not to represent Intel Corporation.
To prevent confusion in the future, I am closing this thread.
