I just received a message from Premier Support that a new version of 8.1 is available for download. However I upgraded to 9.0 over a month ago, as I thought this was the latest version. Why are two versions being maintained and released. Is 9.0 a beta?

9.0 is not a beta. The way Intel handles things is that when a new version comes out, we continue updating the previous version for a while, but only with "high priority" fixes, recognizing that some of our customers need time to switch versions. As time goes on, the frequency of updates to the old version slows down and eventually stops.
So, if you're already at 9.0, ignore the 8.1 announcements.
