Error during read.

forrtl: severe (39): error during read... I have received the above-mentioned message during debugging. Here is a code which was used many years ago when a program was running under MS-DOS and MS Fortran 5.0. The file type - unformatted. I suppose a reason of message is the following: the data file assumes that it was written with 16-bit record lengths, but not 32-bit ones. If so and I am right, I wonder how to open the BIO.DAT file in the IVF? OPEN (UNIT=10,STATUS='OLD',FORM='UNFORMATTED',FILE='BIO.DAT') READ (UNIT=10) BIO REWIND 10

This read error suggests that the data in the File BIO.DAT does not match the variable BIO. What is the declaration of BIO and how was the file BIO.DAT created? The UNFORMATTED is raw binary data so if the file was created under some older system there is a possibility that the data will be incompatible and some data manipulation (bit twiddling) will be required.
