Is it possible to have an exception encountered in Quickwin hardfail rather than pop up a window with the traceback and a requirement to press OK?

Well, you'll probably get a Windows popup instead. But what you'll want to do is use SET_ENVIRONMENT_VARIABLE to set FOR_NOERROR_DIALOGS to "1". Actually, this may do exactly what you want.
