I'm posting this for the benefit of others who might have this problem.
Symptoms:
1) You try to install IVF 11.1 and it fails towards the end rolling back the entire install
2) You try running theMSI installer for the ide intergration directlyand it fails
3) You have Windows Installer 4.5with KB958655installed (
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958655)
To Fix:
1) Uninstall KB958655
2) Install IVF 11.1
3) Reinstall KB958655
Things Intel could to to make figuring this out easier:
1) Let you run the MSI installers directly without having to poke around in log files to find the right arguements. You used to be able to do this with version 9 and I don't know why it was removed.
2) If this is indeed a widespread issue maybe a note could be made on the troubleshooting page (

The installers used were for 11.1 update 1 and 11.1 update 4 novsshell.
This problem was seen on XP SP3 machines with Visual Studio 2008, MSI 4.5and KB958655 installed. We don't have any Vista or 7 machines so I don't know if they are also affected.
