I have tried everything above. My installation doesn't even have an C:Program FilesMicrosoft Visual Studio 9.0Intel FortranVFPackages folder. I removed and re-installed the entire installation yesterday to no avail. I have downloaded VS2008 repair tool - the executable will not allow me access. I have put my CD installation disc back in and now I get a 1620 error when I try to run the installation. Nothing is working. I have Intel Visual Fortran Compiler Professional Edition 11.1.035. Should I try to uninstall it again - assuming the uninstall will work. I just put my CD back in and now it is moving forward to the Welcome page. This is the most complicated install I have ever experienced

Do you have Administrator privileges? Which edition of Visual Studio 2008 do you have? When you say "the executable will not allow me access", what do you mean? What is the error message?

I see you are trying the install again - let me know what happens. If things don't work, I do suggest a full uninstall of Intel Visual Fortran, followed by a reinstall.

I uninstalled yesterday and re-installed. No change. Finally today I tried to uninstall again and it worked for ten minutes, then said the program had been removed but nothing had been removed. The Fortran and Visual Studio were still listed in Programs. I removed them using Windows and then try to re-install but the installation failed at the end. I don't know how to completely wipe out the software now. Repair won't work either.

Ok. Download and install the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility and use this remove Intel Visual Fortran. Then try a reinstall. Please take note of any error messages you get.

Ran installer utility. Reinstalled VF and was allowed to re-enter Serial Number. So far so good. Error occurred. Reinserted VF CD and Modified Installation. Same error - see attached jpg.

Interesting that the error message doesn't actually say anything useful. I haven't seen that before. There may be a problem wuth the DVD.

May I suggest that you log in to the Intel Registration Center and download the 11.1.038 installer? It's newer than the one you have on DVD. If you already have VS2008 installed, pick the one with the name ending in _novsshell.exe. Let me know how it goes.

Also, earlier in the installation the message came up that Intel Visual Fortran Compiler for Applications Running on IA-64 would not be installed. I just continued on past that.

I don't have Visual Studio 2008 Installed. It is being installed from the Intel CD, isn't it? Or some kind of shell.

Ok - Visual Studio 2008 Shell is correct.

I suggest that you uninstall both Intel Visual Fortran and Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Shell, then download the "full" installer from the Intel Registration Center for 11.1.038.

Yes, it's fine that the installer told you it was skipping IA-64.

Do you have Administrator privileges on your system? I have never seen such issues during installation. Let me also suggest that you temporarily disable any anti-virus programs you have running. Some of these can interefere with product installations.

If you can't get it going, perhaps we can arrange an interactive session where I connect to your PC and see what's going on. Let me know if that is an option.

First, I want to thank you for your time.

I am the only user of the computer, so I do have Administrator privileges.
I was able to get the visual compiler to run on my laptop. It did not install correctly the first time. I ran through it again and modified the installation and then Fortran appeared as a project type. Don't know why my desktop is causing problems. An interactive session will be fine from this end.

Problem solved. The repair tool needed to be run "as Administrator", a step I have now added to the KB article.
