Installing IVF 11.1.067

During installation of IVF 11.1.067 (IA32) I received the message "Unable to install into Visual Studio. Failure in "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\\IntelFortran\\VFPackages\\integrate.bat" "C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\\Common7\\Tools".
After calling VS2005 I received the message that IVF Compiler integration package was not loaded, a similar message also for C++ (similar error message during installation).
I deinstalled IVF and C++, but the previous versions of both compilers were not operational anymore. A reinstallation of 067 did not help.

What can I do to solve the problem? I need the C++ and IVF compilers urgently to finish a project.

Environment: Windows 7 (IA32, German)), Visual Studio 2005 (German), IVF & C++ IA32

Can you try re-installing the previous version of the IDE? If that still does not work, you might try a VIsual Studio modify to repair the IDE.

Please try the steps in this article to make 11.1.067 work?

Hi Wendy, thanks for the answer. I was puzzled by the reference to VS2008 in the error message. VS2008 is not present on my workstation, only VS2005. I had a similar problem some time ago with a demo version which took quite some time to fix, especially the C++ part. Repairing or reinstalling VS2005 did not help, some files had to be fixed manually. But I will try what you are suggesting, maybe this time it will help.

Rase,
From the messages that you posted, VS2008 is not mentioned anywhere.
It does mention Visual Studio 8 - which is VS2005.( VS2008 is Visual Studio 9 )

Did you also install SP1 for VS2005 ? Remembering that the order of installation is
VS2005
VS2005 SP1
IVF

Sorry, Les, I did not know the difference. Service packs for VS2005 are installed, 065 (C++ and IVF) were running properly. I will try to repair VS2005, but I remember that was not enough for C++.

I deinstalled all Intel products (C++, IVF, MKL) and installed IVF 11.1.067 again. I received the same error message during the installion procedure (step 5). Should I reinstall VS2005? I remember that the reinstallation of VS2005 did not help last time.

Rase,
(The VS numbers get me confused sometimes too. I also use Visual SourceSafe which has another set of numbers to remember!)

I have only installed 067 into VS2008 not 2005 so haven't come across this problem.

If you follow this link there is a link to a repair tool for VS2005 which may help

Les, thanks fr the hint to the VS2005 Repair Tool. Its execution failed, however. I think I have to reinstall the complete VS2005 package including the SPs. But let's wait what the Intel people have to say.

How did the repair tool fail? This may give us some indication on what might be preventing the install. Also what error message did you get on the installation?

The repair tool return the following message:
Visual Studio 2005 installed at C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\
Error while
loading C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Intel Fortran\VFPackages\VFA

Vwin.dll: Das angegebene Modul wurde nicht gefunden.

(Vwin.dll was not found)

I have to add that build 065 was deinstalled before calling the repair tool. But I got the same message with build 065 still installed. The reinstallation of build 065 failed. Will the reinstallation of VS2005 and 065 suffice to reach to the previous state before 067?

It does seem like the IDE is missing. There was a bug with older compilers that once you uninstalled, future releases would have trouble installing the IDE. See here.

I think you might be right, a fressh install of VS 2005 might be needed.

Wendy, I executed the following steps:

1. Deinstallation of VS2005, reinstallation of VS2005 and SDK; all updates from Microsoft applied
2. Installation of IVF 11.1.067; same error message as in my first entry
3. Execution of VS2005; no error message; I was able to work with a pure Fortran solution. Compile, link including an external library and execution of the exe worked just fine.
4. Installation of C++ 11.1.067; again error message in step 5 (see attached screenshot).
5. Execution of VS2005 started with the error message that C++ could not be loaded. The mixed language solution (Fortran project calling C++ projects) did not work.

Summary: Reinstallation of VS2005 did not solve the problem. Any suggestions? Should I go back to 065?

In the past there were problems probably caused by the German versions of either Windows or VS2005, but I am not able to recall the problem.

VS2005 on Win7 requires 2 patch steps which you didn't mention: application of general service pack, then service pack supplement for Vista/Win7.

Hi Wendy. I executed the following steps:

1. Deinstallation of VS2005
2. Reinstallation of VS2005 and SDK, including all necessary updates from Microsoft
3. Installation of IVF 11.1.067; error message equivalent to the one in my first entry
4. Execution of VS2005; no error message. A pure Fortran solution worked ok: compile, link with an external library (Winteracter) and execution went just fine.
5. Installation of Intel C++ compiler suite; error message (see attached screenshot)
6. Execution of VS2005; error message (loading of C++ not possible). Solution with mixed language programming - Fortran programs are calling C and C++ programs - does not work, naturally.

What shall I do now? Go back to 065 (last working ocnfiguration)? I think I have to deinstal and reinstal VS2005 again to get rid of the error message.

I hope to find a solution ASAP, my project deadline is approaching.

Sorry for the duplication, Tim18 and I accessed the file at the same time probably.

Tim18: After installation of VS2005 from the CDs I asked the Microsoft update utility to do all necessary updates. 3 + 5 updates were installed automatically. I suppose the update you refer to was included somewhere in these 8 updates.

In my experience, the important updates didn't come automatically. You could check whether you have SP1 installed as a result of automatic updates. The special follow-on update to VS2005 SP1 to support Vista and Win7 wasn't offered automatically. In my experience these installations had to be invoked specifically and in order.

Thanks, Tim18, for the hint to the follow-on update to SP1, which was indeed not loaded down automatically. The hyperlink pointed to the English version of VS2005. The German version needs a different file, but to find that was easy. Deinstallation and reinstallation of IVF and C++ after installation of the additional update was not successful, unfortunately. I think I have to apply the repair procedures, both for Fortran and for C++. I have a faint reminiscence that Steve Lionel posted something here in the forum. I will dig a bit deeper tomorrow.

After deinstallation of C++ 11.1.067 and a clean-up of the registry I tried to install 11.1.065 again. The installation failed with the same error message (see attached screenshot). IVF and C++ 11.1.065 worked fine before I tried to install 067. Something is wrong with my system and/or VS2005. But what? Any suggestions how I will be able to reinstall 065?

The problem is solved, thanks to the advice of an Intel wizard (Jennifer Lee). Something was wrong with the setting of the system environment variable "path" (too much entries, wrong entry, whatever). Thanks for the help!

Could anyone describe the solution more precisely?
I have the same problem with Intel Fortran 11.1 and VS 2008.
