Dear Santa,
I'm 3 (in "modern Fortran" years!). My coding siblings say I've been a good and generous Fortranner this year. And my boss says I've following good coding practices (well, mostly!).
For this holiday season, can you please bring me a super-duper Fortran compiler with:
- SUBMODULEs,
- Derived types with ALLOCATABLE components of RECURSIVE type,
- TS 29113 features for enhanced interoperability with C,
- EXIT in BLOCK construct,
- Implied-shape array, especially in statements with PARAMETER attribute,
- FINDLOC intrinsic,
- Improved integration with Visual Studio with "Intellisense" that .NET coders get,
I promise I'll leave you special treats and and that I'll be an even better Fortranner next year.
Thank you Santa,

Santa's elves have finished their toy building for this year, but perhaps they can make you happier next Christmas.

Waa, waa, waa, waa!
Ok, I'll stop crying now, "play" with what I have, learn to count blessings, and wait...
Happy holidays to all,

Dear Santa,
For Christmas please can I have a Fortran forum where the dates on posts don't leave me often having to do double take.
MM/DD/YYYY is a little crazy, for the USA and I think Belize and maybe the Philippines I am sure this is great but for the rest of the world?. These are international forums after all.
12/03/2014 would be better if it was conforming to ISO 8601 and being 03/12/2014 or 2014/12/03 however I personally would also be happy with 03/DEC/2014 as a compromise.....
Thank you Santa

What - you don't also want the times to represent your local time zone instead of US Pacific?

Dear Santa,
1. Please allow me to set my preference to see posts in reverse chronological order inside a selected thread. It is a bit annoying to scroll down to the bottom of the page and, for longer threads, find the link to page-2 of the thread at the very bottom.
2. Please allow me to manage my attachments to forum posts, at least to be able to upload a corrected file and replace the older version.
3. Please give me back the ability to use standard mathematical symbols for "greater or equal", etc., which were available with the old forum software in 2011.
4. Please allow me to copy/paste plain-text from other posts without bringing in unwanted attributes (font, boldface, size, etc.).

Santa,
I received a nice packet last weekend, a good set of bug fixes with the latest compiler update. However a few Fortran 2008 goodies thrown in would have helped me become even better.
I hope you will remember my letter from last December.
Thank you,

We don't add language features in updates anymore, but Christmas may come earlier this year for you when we start the beta for the next version.
