I have a general question about the licensing of IVF. Does the purchaser's right to re-install a version of the compiler released during the active period of a license, expire with the expiration of the license?

No, it does not. You have a perpetual license to run any compiler released during the period of your support agreement. The licenses do not themselves expire, but they have a "support end date" which prevents you from installing and running a compiler released after the support date limit. When you renew support, you get a new license with a new "support end date".

That's what I suspected. Here's the follow up problem:
I purchased IVF 8.0 standard on 8/24/2004 with 1 year license.
I am moving to a new box. Itriedto re-install W_FC_P_9.0.018.exe (released on 6/13/2005) on this box. I requested and received acopy of my license file and serial number.Usedthe serial number to install. Installation program indicated the serial number was invalid. Contacted Premier Support; transcript attached. I was told I need to purchase an updated license.
As an aside, I "should" be able to install W_FC_C_9.0.021.exe (released 8/19/2005), yes?
Thanks for your help

I'm sorry that you were given incorrect information. The problem is that the 9.0 installer will not accept the old serial number. However, if you already have a valid license file on the system, it will accept it.
So here's what to do. Log in at Intel Registration Center, search for your serial number, and ask that the license file be remailed to you. When you get it, save the file with a .LIC file type in C:Program FilesCommon FilesIntelLicenses
Now install 9.0.021. It should find the license and suggest you use it, then allow you to continue.
If you need more help, please contact Intel Premier Support. I will let the support engineer know that he was mistaken.
