I know that the validated version of VS 2022 for use with OneAPI HPC Toolkit is 2024.0 is 17.7.5, but has anyone tried using it with VS 2022 17.8? We have a need to use 17.8 for use with .NET 8.

We have been testing 17.8 internally. We are validating upcoming 2024.1.0 release with VS 17.8.4, no known issues so far.
Please do let us know of any issues you experience testing VS 17.8

I use this combination on my main work computer, it does a lot of Fortran and there is nothing that is beyond " that is an interesting feature",
If you go to 17.9 preview 5, it will work, but the debugger is not great. I assume Intel is working on it. Generally it takes a major chnage by MS to stop the Intel Fortran, that occured with the 2022 preview, but Intel has started to address it and it is workable. Once you get used to the nice features in preview, it is hard to go back, of course the simple version is to use both as required.
VS 2019 is getting long in the tooth and is due for the humane vet destroyer.

What "nice features" could compensate for a core feature like debugging "not being great"? #warning John enjoys preview pain but I would advise against it.

Given that the consuming project that needs .NET 8 is consuming the Fortran as libraries in a NuGet package, I don't suppose it matters what version of VS 2022 they use. I'll stick with the supported version for Fortran development until we upgrade from OneAPI 2024.0.

My comment is to use both versions, but the problem from yesterday is the 17.9 that was the Preview is now the published VS 2022 and the preview is a new 17.10. So if you want to use last week's preview just update to VS 2022 now. Anyone downloading VS 2022 will get last week's preview.
I use VS for C# for accelerometers, so using the latest VS is important, but always have two and then you are ok.
But some places have much tighter rules than a person working alone can use.

@Devorah_H_Intel , 17.8 is no longer used on the Microsoft download it is 17.9 which from appearances is the old VS 2022 preview ( up until last week) and there is a new preview 17.10. If you have to reinstall VS you are stuck with 17.9, I cannot see how to get 17.8 - maybe I am missing something? As I install VS 2022 at least once a fortnight on my many instrumentation computers - the latest NUC's are not as stable as the old sixers - I love a 6 and hate an 11. I have no choice but to deal with this problem.
MS is blasting out VS updates.

So far, 17.9 is working well for me. Avoid "preview" versions.

17.9 has worked well as a preview since about the second iteration, it is last week's preview, the point is 17.8 is gone.
