VS 2005 shell instead of VS2008 Shell?

Good day,

We specify IVF for project work. But our R&D people don't always qualify the latest products so sometimes I need to invent ways of getting there from here.

I'm aware that a customer purchased shrink-wrap IVF (current release I think is 11.x) can be downgraded to an earlier release. We have been doing that for some time.

But is it possible to similarly downgrade the "Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Shell and Libraries" from the 2008 version on the current release to 2005? If so how do I arrange that? (VS 2008 has not yet been qualified for our product suite.)

(The bottom line...I guess what I effectively need is the older release that we have qualified. Is there any easy way to just get an ISO image of the earlier combination release for installation purposes? Then the only thing I would need to do is acquire the appropriate license.)

Thank you for your help. Brent.

11.1 does not support VS2005 Premier Partner Edition. But you can download 11.0, which does include and support that, by following the instructions here. Or if you have a separately purchased VS2005, you can install that and then install 11.1.

If you have VS2005 available and qualified, you can install that, and re-install ifort against it. Your team is being very picky if they discriminate between VS2005 subsets and VS2008 subsets supplied with Intel compilers. ifort 11.1 has undergone its own qualification with VS2008 shell, as well as full VS2005, not with VS2005 PPE. As Steve said, you have the option of going back to an ifort which did provide VS2005 PPE.

OK, let me see if I have this right. We currently support IVF 10.x and VS2005. So...

If we buy IVF 11.1 we can download 11.0 wich includes VS 2005. We can install that (still version 11 so the s/w key should still work). That gives us the VS2005 shell pieces. (Can the VS2005 part be installed by itslef without IVF? If so it saves a few steps.)
If installedI then uninstall IVF 11.0 leaving VS2005 in place. Then I candownload IVF 10.x and fetch the correct license since it probably won't install with theV11 license. Then install IVF 10.x.

Will this exercise get me where I need to go? (It almost sounds like "there and back again" (Hobbit, not WoW).)

Thank you, Brent.

PS, no comment on being picky...I'm just the guy in the middle of this stuff.

If you want a version of ifort with PPE, simply install that version (10.1 or 11.0, preferably late updates). I suppose it's safer to have removed all VS2008 shell stuff.

Sorry if I made it sound more complicated than it is. Just download and install the 10.x version you want, as it also includes VS2005 Premier Partner Edition. No need for 11.0 as an intermediate step. Just make sure you get the download that says it includes VS.

Oh, one slight complication. You cannot use your 11.x serial number to install 10.x. You'll need to register the serial number at the Intel Registration Center, after which you'll be emailed a license file. Select the install option to use a license file and point it at the file you've saved on disk.
