I used my intel account to download fortran compiler 2011 XE Update 9 Redistributables from the intel website. It contained 2 MSI files for each 32 and 64 bit redistributable libraries. I installed both, seemed to go ok, but in my about VS2010 it still shows 12.0 for fortran. I also went into tools -> options -> fortran > compilers and it still only shows build 104 there.
Any Ideas? Am I missing something? Update information seems...very sparse on line.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

You don't install the "redistributables" - that's something you would install on another system where you wanted to run a Fortran program. Install the compiler and libraries package with "novsshell" in its name, assuming you previously installed the compiler and have Visual Studio of some sort.

OK, I guess my real question then is, if I bought 12.0, can I update to 12.1 for free? Or is the only way to get 12.1 to pay?

Licenses come with 1 year of support, which can be renewed. You can update to any version of the compiler released before support expires on your license. You can download updated versions of the compiler from the Intel Registration Center.
