invalid compiled help (.chm) file

Using CVF 6.6 on Win XPPro, I am getting the message box:
Attempting to use an invalid compiled help (.chm) file.
when trying to access the help from the menu, or context-help (f1). The help worked fine on my previous (Win2000) machine. I have tried removing an re-installing CVF, to no avail. Any tips or assistance is appreciated. Do I need to clear out any additional files after un-install?
Thanks,

This can be caused by corruption of the hhctrl.ocx file, which is a Windows file.

I'm not entirely sure how to fix this. The version that comes with XP is newer than the one in CVF, but that means the CVF one should not have installed. Perhaps you can recover the old one from your XP distribution?

I got the "invalid compiled help (.chm) file" message (in French)after installing CVF 6.1 on XP Home Edition (French). At first, I suspected it was a language compatibility issue. However, I can open the dfmain.chm file from its DF98docdirectory, with the French menus for HTML help. So I ruled out this possibility.
I tried installing CVF on an other computer with XP Pro and did not get the "invalid compiled help (.chm) file" but I only get access to the SDK when accessing help from within Visual Studio menu. I have been trying to figure out if this could be fixed by modifying the HTML Help *.col files, but did not dare to make adjustments so far.
On NT 4.0, none of theabove problems occured.

You would need to switch collections in Tools..Options..Help.

Thanks for the suggestion. I double checked, and found the hhctrl.ocx file in C:WINDOWSsystem32. I cpoied from another machine, just to be sure. Version # is 5.2.3790.1280. Still the same message [invalid compiled help (.chm) file ] from the Visual Studio when accessing help.
Any other clues?
