I'm simply trying to dowload the free fortran compiler for linux. Everything goes fine until installation when it asks for my serial number. I copy it exactly as given in the email and every time it says invalid serial number. . . someone please help!!

I can work with you directly in email so we don't have the serial on a public forum.
But first, try this: Go to https://registrationcenter.intel.com and register the serial number. Once you log into registrationcenter and have the serial registered, it will show you the product for that serial number, and have the downloads for the product.
You should have downloaded a kit named l_cprof_p_11.0.074.tgz, right? No _ia64, correct?
