reading vax unformated file from pc

Hi, I'm having problem reading unformated file writtern from vax on pc. The read statement can not read in the variables, but it doesn't go to err handler either, anyone has previous experience on this issue?

Unfortunately "this" link does not seem to work anymore. I am trying to seek a solution for the same problem.
VAX to PC formatting/carriage return etc.

The link was about converting unformatted files. It sounds as if you are trying to transfer formatted files. Where do you have the files now?
