Denoise CAST

Dear experts,
I was looking for some clarification on the following line in the documentation for ippiDenoiseCAST:

"pSrcEdge Pointer to the edge-detection filtered source image frame."

What does "edge-detection filtered source image" mean? Is it an image with the edges derived from the source image, or is it just filtered (using sobel or gaussian) so that it becomes easier to detect the edges internally?
