I would also be interested to know if SVC is going to be added.

That would be a great addition to IPP.

In the meantime there's the reference SVC software (http://ip.hhi.de/imagecom_G1/savce/downloads/SVC-Reference-Software.htm) and the OpenSVC library (http://sourceforge.net/projects/opensvcdecoder/) that are freely available. The second is LGPL and is quite fast.

However, the reference encoder could benefit from a few IPP primitives. ;)

Just to clarify, so H264-SVC is on the IPP roadmap?

This is 2 years old but since we never heard back, is there any update on this? H.264 SVC itself is 4 years old and is being used by quite a few applications. Will UMC support enhancement layers in the near future?

Hi,

As I remember, SVC is in Intel Media SDK, not part of IPP product. No plan to include SVC encoder in near future of IPP release. So my suggestion is to use Intel Media SDK

Naveen GV

Thanks for the update. I think it was introduced in the MEdia SDK version 3.

Intel Media SDK added support for MVC (3D) but I see no mention of SVC (Scalable). Does it really support AVC, MVC and SVC? Also, is Intel Media SDK built on top of the UMC codecs or were they rewritten from scratch for better features/performance/etc?

Hi,

Not sure if this was already clarified, but Intel Media SDK does not support SVC! Currently, Intel Media SDK supports H.264 (AVC) encode/decode, MPEG2 encode/decode and VC1 decode. As part of Media SDK 3.0 (currently in beta) we also support MVC (S3D).

More info can be found in the Media SDK forum FAQ, http://software.intel.com/en-us/forums/showthread.php?t=68039&o=a&s=lr, or by downloading the Intel Media SDK, http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/media/, and exploring the documentation and extensive samples code.

Thanks for the update Petter. Are there any plans to add SVC support to Media SDK and/or IPP/UMC? It's been standardized in 2007 and is seeing increased adoption lately, especially for videoconferencing.

Hi,

We are exploring adding support for SVC in our suite of products. However, we cannot share any detailed plans on when/how/if just yet.
