How can i reduce 50% value in alpha channel?

hi folks

How can i reduce 50% value in alpha channel for image transparency. actually my requirements is i have 2 image one is red free and other one is green free image, now i want to display the one image over other image (with transparent). so i thought i can reduce the 50% value in alpha channel then only we can display the transparency image.? is it correct or not? plz reply me as soon as possible.

you can use IPP AlphaComposition functions. Please see attached sample
