IPP Performance Dual Core P4 vs. Single/Dual Xeon EMT64

Hi,
I was wondering if you could advise on the best platform for IPP performance. We are going to be doing a large amount of mpeg-4 ASP decoding and are looking at either running a machine based on a Dual Core P4 Intel Pentium D (Smithfield) Core, or running adual Xeon EMT64 (Irwindale) Core machine. Can you shed any light on which would provide the best platform for IPP usage?
Thanks!

Dear Customer,

If the OSs are 32bits,then both Dual Core P4 Intel Pentium D (Smithfield) Core anddual Xeon EMT64 (Irwindale) Core machine will use "t7" code from Intel IPPand shoudl run well. As Irwindale is an SMP system thus it should run slightlybetter than Smithfield.

Same thing if

the OSs are 64bits,but "m7" code from IPP EM64T pacakge will be used.

Additionally, you shouldnoticesome performance gain for the Intel IPP MPEG-4 decoder on dual core systems as we added additional threading optimizations for this decoder.

Hope it helps.
Thanks,

Ying

Well for pure performance on the number of actual mpeg4 streams that can be decoded, would you reccomend a dual Xeon 2MB cache system or the Dual Core P4? Which would be able to decode more streams or do the same number of streams more efficiently?
Thanks!

Hi,

I think the most visible difference here not in performance but in level of power consumption. DC systems should require less power at the same (or similar) performance level.

Hi,

I am trying to run terminal service for 30 users, would you share whether I should use a Dual Core P4 or Xeon machine ?

Sorry, I have no idea what workload one terminal session put on to the system. Probably you need to look at server systems for such task rather than on just usual workstations.
