Did you have a chance to look at a"Numerical Recipes" book ( chapter 6 )?

The book hasan exampleandit could be what you're looking for:

- Legendre polynomials, associated ( spherical harmonics )

- DirectX SDK ( it definetely has an example )
- OpenGL SDK
- NVIDIA SDK
