ippiConvert_32f8u_C1R problem

Hi,
I have a problem with converting an float image to a 8u image.
The float image is actually a binary mask(0.0 and 1.0) and for faster processing I want to convert it into a unsigned 8 bit image. When I apply ippiConvert_32f8u_C1R either with ippRndNear or with ippRndZero the result is only a black image(all zeros). What I am doing wrong or what does ippiConvert really?
Thank you,
Georg
