How to Convert Win32 Threads to Pthreads

To the Forum at Large -

I recently received the following email:

I am interested in porting from one threading model to another. If the app is written say in C++ in Windows, when we port that to Linux, what should we look for; is there a one-to-one mapping in threading model; how threads are being treated within each OS (threads vs processes, and such); etc. Is there such a comparison?

I've got some ideas, but I was wondering if anyone in the Threading Forum had some information or opinions. Is there any documentation or a "HOW-TO" guide that might help someone do this porting from one threading model to anther? Please share any advice or experiences you've had with this kind of conversion.
