When is the Intel Itanium being released with the sticker & the motherboard to the Desktop market? And when is the price coming down for a regular programmer to buy it?

Itanium desktop plans were canceled with the advent of multiple core CPUs, which make other products better suited for desktop. Typical current Itanium products range from 4 sockets (8 cores) on up, definitely not in popular price range. My Itanium "desktop" is 4 years old, running well, and its residual market value is somewhat affordable for a "regular programmer."
