Can Optane accelerate Secondary HDD?

Hello,

I already have a Samsung 960 Pro NVMe Primary HDD so there's no point accelerating my boot drive.

My secondary HDD is a mechanical WD Black 4TB that is currently being accelerated by a SATA SSD using Intel RST. I would like to change this so it is accelerated with the Optane module rather than the SATA SSD. My question is, can Optane be used to accelerate any drive or just the primary one? All the product info seems to suggest using it to speed up the primary boot drive only and I want to be sure before purchasing a module.

Great to see it implemented for 7th generation CPUs and secondary HDD drive.

Some forums claim thought that Optane support would be technically feasible also for Z170 motherboards, not only 200 and 300 series.

Since Optane is perhaps an attractive alternative to boost HDDs and older systems, perhaps R&D can also look into Z170 chipset compatibility for Optane ?

Just read that some Coffee Lake CPUs can run on Z170. Also Sky Lake and Kaby Lake can run on Z370. Proved by some smart guys from China.

Sky is not the limit … hugh ? ;-)
