I bought an optane with my new setup because it seemed great, until i went to install it and found out it cannot be used on a secondary drive. I already have a SSD in my 2nd m.2 slot, the only way i see i could use this is to re-install windows on my hdd and use the sdd for storage. what a waste this is for me. I was so sold on the idea i didn't properly do my research, now the optane chip will sit on my motherboard and do nothing.

Hello Danark,
What is the model of your M.2 SSD?
Please keep in mind that system acceleration with Intel® Optane™ Memory is not compatible with NVMe* drives. However, if your M.2 is SATA based, you should have no issues.
- https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/memory-and-storage/intel-optane-memory/000023994.html Before You Buy Intel® Optane™ Memory.
Most of the other "Unsupported System Drive" errors are easily corrected through configuration changes.
If your M.2 is not NVMe*, please share the full error message, and https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/25293/Intel-System-Support-Utility Intel® System Support Utility report. Otherwise, as Al Hill mentioned, your place of purchase should be able to take it back.
Best regards,
Carlos A.

Hello Danark,
Ok, yes. In this case we can only recommend for you to return the Optane™ Memory module, or swap boot drives.
The ability to accelerate secondary drives has been requested by other users and is currently under consideration. However, we cannot make any promises or guarantees as to when or if it will become available.
Best regards,
Carlos A.
