Ahoy,
I have an intel NUC that has the fan speed fluctuating to high about every 10 to 30 minutes. Could somebody point me to or suggest some approaches to figuring out why this is occurring.
OS ubuntu 22.04
very low processing and application load.
A top and htop or logs show anything around the time of the heightened fan speed.
Open to suggestions.
Cheers

1. Ensure that the fan and the air inlets are clean from dust.
2. In BIOS settings Advanced>Performance>Processor uncheck (disable} the Intel Turbo Boost Technology.

Leon,
this NUC is a12th gen intel i7-1260P
BIOS Version is WSADL357.0075.2022.0322.1605
from the BIOS menu screen I click the "Power, Performance, and Cooling" menu tab then I see that the "Performance" option is not clickable and is unhighlighted. What can I do abotu this?
If I need to upgrade my BIOS - please tell me the recommended stable version, where I can download it, and the instructions for installing the new BIOS on this NUC.
Thanks in advance

Try this:
1. Enter BIOS settings (F2 during boot process, while you see the Intel NUC logo)
2. Click on Performance tab.
3. On the Performance page, click on Processor.
4. On the Processor page, uncheck the Intel Turbo Boost Technology.
5. Click on F10 and confirm save the new setting and exit from BIOS.

Hi @djnoah
I'm assuming that the NUC model you have is a Wall Street Canyon NUC12WSxi7. If I'm wrong, disregard my post.
If I'm right, you have very old BIOS (version 0075), while the latest version is version 0093. Since upgrade to version 0093 is quite big jump, my advise is to use for upgrade, BIOS Recovery Method with the yellow security jumper removed:
1. Prepare USB stick fully formatted to FAT32 . Format your USB with Quick Format option unchecked. Do not format your USB in MAC (OS) or Linux machine. Use Windows. Download the WSADL357.0093.zip and extract it on your drive. From the Recovery File directory copy the WSADL357.cap file to the root of this USB.
2. Disconnect the power adapter and remove the bottom panel from your NUC.
3. Remove the Yellow Bios Security Jumper. (page 35 in Technical Product Specification)
5. Insert the USB with the WSADL357.cap file into rear USB slot.
6. Reconnect the power adapter and power ON the NUC. Wait 30 sec - 2min. The Recovery process will start automatically and will end after 2 -5 minutes.
7. When bios recovery is completed, press and hold the Power Button to switch the power OFF, remove the USB stick with the BIOS file, remove the power adapter and replace the Security Jumper (pins 1-2) . Reinstall the bottom panel.
8. Power your NUC ON.
9. Enter Bios setting by pressing F2 during boot process.
10. Press F9(followed by Enter), to set Bios to default settings. Press F10 (followed by Enter), to save the settings and exit to O.S. Let the NUC fully reboot.

Leon,
I see zero mention of "Wall Street Canyon" on the NUC label. The model is SWNUC12WSHi7000
What is the procedure for upgrading the BIOS?
Cheers

Hi @djnoah
Your NUC is a Wall Street Canyon NUC.
Can't give you better upgrade procedure than described in my post above. If you prefer Asus Procedure , follow the section: BIOS Recovery by the Security Jumper.
Regards
Leon
