So I recently purchased an Intel S1200KP, but I every time I power it on, it seems to have an error with the RAM. I have tried 2 different RAM sticks (I will specify later in this post), and each has the same result: 3 beeps, pause, 3 beeps, pause, so on so forth. The RAM that I have attempted to use in this build are:
Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR3 1333 Server Memory Hynix C Model KVR13E9/4HC
Crucial 2GB 240-Pin DDR3 CT25664BA1339.M8FMR (Previously used in a computer successfully)
In case it is relevant, I have an Intel Xeon E-1220 V2 Ivy Bridge @3.1GHz (3.5GHz Turbo) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB l3Cache LGA 1155 69W Quad-Core Server Processor BX80637E31220V2
I have tried the sticks in each ram slot individually, and with the other as well. Also keep in mind that the Kingston 4GB DDR3 RAM & the Intel S1200KP are brand new. I really would like to know what the issue is and how I can resolve the issue, or even just clues as to help me solve it would be outstanding. Thank you.

It wasn't the RAM at all. We put in a Sandy Bridge i3, and it ran just fine with the RAM. All it needed was a BIOS update.

Ahh that's the missing part... That's because the Xeon E3-1220 processor doesn't have a graphics core... See http://ark.intel.com/products/52269/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1220-8M-Cache-3_10-GHz http://ark.intel.com/products/52269/Intel-Xeon-Processor-E3-1220-8M-Cache-3_10-GHz. The Xeon E3-12x5 processors have graphics core.

Yep, that plus the S1200KP does not have any integrated video built in to the board unlike the S1200BTL/BTS have.
As it uses the C206 workstation chipset (rather than the C202/204 server PCHs). it seems to be presumed a user will be using a third party graphics card but of course, as Edward has mentioned, any E3 with integrated graphics will also work (the E3-12X5 models).

I for one knew I was missing something simple and straightforward. For in my search for issues I came across mention of using a graphics card for this combo. But its significance did not strike me as being the cause for my 'problem'. It would have been helpful if it had been mentioned somewhere in the literature in plain speak

Thanks Dustin.
For the benefit of anyone else reading this...
I didn't have a Sandy Bridge i3 lying around like Dustin, but just for the heck of it I gave it a go with an i7-2600 (even though the supported processors list only shows i3s). It worked. No more memory fault BIOS beeps and I could upgrade BIOS by F7.
After getting to BIOS 0023, I replaced the Xeon E3-1245v2 and was able to install the server OS.

I would pay for VT-d support. Who can make it happen for us?
