Xeon processor board fails to boot with below error,

"Could not find boot partition".

To test, I replaced the hard drive and re-installed the OS, No luck. Anybody seen this behavior. I can see the hard drive in the BIOS.

Hello AjitS,

Greetings from Intel !!

Thank you for your post. Upon reviewing, we understand that system is not able to locate the boot partition. The drive detected in BIOS simply means the hardware is detected by system physically.

We would like to know what is the system that you are using? Is it an assembled one? if yes, please share the exact board details. What is the OS that you are trying to install?

Aside this, what we have to ensure is:

  1. The Boot order should be set correct in BIOS.
  2. If you are trying to install OS which uses UEFI and if BIOS boot mode is set to Legacy, this will create conflict. They have to be the same.
  3. For example if you are using Windows 10 or windows 11, that needs UEFI, your boot mode should also be selected as UEFI in BIOS.
  4. Also if both are UEFI, and as you said you changed the disk as well, it may not be having correct partition table, and you may need to try partition it using diskpart. Please follow below steps:

  • If Boot device order and Boot mode are correctly set in BIOS, with boot mode UEFI and installing Windows OS, when you Install using your media (pen drive) and reach the INSTALL NOW Screen, press shift+F10 or shift+Fn+F10 to launch Command Prompt.
  • Type and Enter DISKPART
  • This will take you to DISKPART and then you need to type and Enter LIST DISK
  • This will show the list of disks against the disk number (0,1,2 etc). You Need to Identify your drive and choose the correct disk by typing and enter SELECT DISK <DISK_NUMBER> || Example, Select Disk 0
  • Then we will need to wipe clean the drive. Type and Enter CLEAN
  • This command will clean the drive. Then we need to convert to correct partition table, For UEFI, we need to convert to GPT. So type and Enter CONVERT GPT
  • Now your drive will be ready. Type and Enter EXIT to exit the disk part and then again EXIT to exit command prompt. You will be back into the INSTALL NOW page and then you can click and continue with installation UI.

Please let us know if this helped and if there is anything else we can assist you with.
