Description:
To take advantage of the potential performance increases afforded by dual- and multi-core processors, the software running on the platform must be written such that it can spread its workload across multiple execution cores, called thread-level parallelism or "threading." With threading comes a new class of problems for developers compared to development of sequential applications. The Intel Math Kernel Library (Intel MKL) provides a means for developers to quickly and easily utilize multi-core processors because many of the most important functions in Intel MKL are already threaded. We will discuss the functionality that Intel MKL provides and how to turn on the built-in threading in its functions. An example will be given showing how to optimize code by making calls to Intel MKL.
