How do i see the performance gains?

Sorry for asking this simple question. I did some testing of the intel kernel math functions. But all i get is very slow performance, as compard to normal C++ math functions.

I'm using VC7 now. I was wondering if there is any tutorial or help pages that shows how to set the settings for optimizing the code, in order to see the performance gains?
