Operating System
OS: Windows 11
Version: 23H2 / 24H2 / etc.
Build: if known
All updates installed: Yes (issue started after recent updates)
Problem Summary
My laptop experiences repeated blue-screen crashes and forced restarts with the error:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x0000007E)
The crashes occur during normal UI usage such as:
Web browsing
FlutterFlow usage
Downloads
Light productivity work
The system then automatically reboots and logs Kernel-Power (Event ID 41) in Event Viewer.
Key Observations (Very Important)
Crashes do NOT occur during gaming (games use NVIDIA RTX GPU)
Crashes DO occur during browser/UI tasks (uses Intel Iris Xe)
Disabling Intel Iris Xe Graphics in Device Manager:
Completely stops the crashes
System becomes stable
Safe Mode works reliably
NVIDIA RTX GPU works without issues
This strongly indicates a driver-level failure in Intel Iris Xe Graphics on Windows 11, especially in a dual-GPU (Intel + NVIDIA) configuration.
Error Details
Blue Screen error:
SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x0000007E)Event Viewer logs include:
BugCheck events
LiveKernelEvent
Kernel-Power (41)
Fault pattern: Intel GPU active → crash
Workaround: Disable Intel Iris Xe → stable system
Steps Already Tried
Updated Intel graphics driver (latest version)
Updated NVIDIA driver (latest Game Ready driver)
Attempted uninstalling recent Windows quality updates (failed)
Checked System Restore (no usable restore point)
Ran system in Safe Mode
Confirmed crashes stop when Intel GPU is disabled
Expected Behavior
Windows should remain stable with Intel Iris Xe enabled during normal usage.
Actual Behavior
System crashes with SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E) when Intel Iris Xe is active.
Impact
Repeated system crashes
Forced shutdowns
Loss of productivity
Intel GPU currently unusable on Windows 11
Request
Please investigate and fix the Intel Iris Xe driver compatibility issue on Windows 11, particularly on systems with NVIDIA RTX discrete GPUs.
