RCSServer service starts but stops within a minute

We've been running Intel SCS for some time and recently upgraded from 12.0 to 12.2.0.139

It seemed to work OK for a while but now the service keeps stopping. There are no obvious errors in the event log, just that the service has stopped.

I've tried reinstalling but it doesn't help - same fault persists.

While the service is running it is possible to provision a machine if you time it just right but then the service stops and nothing works until it's restarted.

Any ideas?

Thank you for contacting Intel Customer Support.

Can you please let us know on how many systems are you getting this problem? Additionally, please send us a screenshot of the error message if possible.

Thanks for your help and sorry for the delay in replying.

There's not really much that I can capture in a screen shot. I open the services console, click on RCSServer and then start the service. It shows that it's starting. If I then refresh the screen a minute later then the RCSServer service is showing stopped.

The following events are shown in the Application event log - the first couple seem to be just logging the startup but then there's an error "RCS failed to load a valid 3rd party Certificate Authority mediation DLL file, so RCS disabled the option. " and after that the service fails.

I've attached the wer.log file. I've found reference elsewhere to the certificate error and comments about using a Microsoft certificate authority. I'm not sure if it's relevant but the certificate we use for our vPro systems is from entrust.

Finally, there was a question about how many systems are we seeing this on - we only have one RCS server but we have about 8,000 provisioned machines and we're trying to provision about the same amount so we can manage the entire estate.

Steve Rochford and I work together and we finally figured out the issue so posting here in case this happens to anyone else.

Basically, the RCSServer service was being forced to stop constantly by a rogue Job (Jobs tab) in the console on every start up, so kept stop/starting.  It wasn’t even possible to delete the job through the console either, we had to do it manually delete it from the back end in the IntelSCS SQL database (removing the relevant entries in the 'job' and 'job_item' tables.  Once that rogue job was deleted, the RCSServer service now remains performant.
