Is it possible to use vPro via off-board network adapter instead of the on-board network adapter? how?

Only if the network adapter was validated to work with vPro technology.

We recommend using the onboard network.

Unfortunately no, you will need to contact the NIC manufacturer to see if it is vPro compatible.
