I've read the differences in spec between the D415 and SR305 (shutter type, resolution, depth method, hardware age, etc..) and there are pro/cons between products. Unfortunately I'm unable to find anything that compares the accuracy from both, i.e. which one has superior depth accuracy (say indoors at optimal distance). I'm looking for a cheap alternative to LIDAR.

If you are scanning small objects indoors at very close range then the SR305 would be an excellent choice. It has greater accuracy than the 400 Series at very close range (the 400 Series has long sensing range at the expense of accuracy at very close range compared to the SR300) and its technology has a proven record in 3D model scanning.
Below are a couple of examples of scans with SR300 technology. The first of the two links has its scan augmented by the addition of a separate DSLR camera.

Thanks for the info Marty. I was leaning towards the SR305.
