HEVC Encoding Licensing

Hi

I have read the Intel website re: Intel Media Server Studio but I am unclear on this:

Can the Community version be used for hardware encoding HEVC (eg: via ffmpeg) without additional licensing? - assuming it is running on a supported Intel skylake cpu.

Thanks very much

Chris

Hi Chris,

Intel Media Server Studio (MSS) supports 4th and 5th generation Core processors (and some Xeon e3 v3 and Xeon e3 v4) but not Skylake.  Assuming your OS is Windows, you can use Intel Media SDK for HEVC hardware encoding and  plugins which provide hardware encoding support are distribute via our graphics drivers. No, licensing needed. Just make sure you have latest drivers installed on the machine from https://downloadcenter.intel.com/. Thanks,
