Hi,
I try to fix crashes on my PC with XTU, but when I want to run a characterization I get an "AI Assist has encountered an error starting characterization". It's a 14900K.
I installed the latest BIOS available for my Motherboard, and restored the default parameters and the error persists.
Could someone help?
Thanks

Hi MichaelS90,
Thank you for reaching out to the Intel Community Forum. I appreciate your message and want to assure you that I’m here to assist with your concern. To better understand the issue and provide accurate support, could you please share the following details:
- At what exact point does the characterization fail—immediately on start, during CPU testing, or partway through? What are your CPU temperatures under load (before attempting characterization)?
- Are you experiencing crashes even at stock settings? Are you also encountering sudden crashes, WHEA errors, or game instability?
- What version of XTU are you running (exact build number)? Are you running XTU on the same drive as your OS, or from an external/secondary drive? Is this a fresh Windows installation, or has XTU worked before on this system?
- Have you tried running XTU as an administrator? (Right-click Intel XTU and select "Run as administrator.") Have you attempted to run the characterization with all other applications closed?
- May I know why you were trying to run a characterization, and when the issue of crashes on your system started?
- When was the purchase date of your processor?
Additionally, to help us better understand your system configuration and provide accurate support, we kindly request that you share the Intel® System Support Utility (SSU) logs from your device. These logs contain important details about your hardware and software environment, which are crucial for troubleshooting.
Please follow these steps:
- Download and run the Intel® SSU application.
- The tool will generate a text file containing your system information.
- Refer to this guide for detailed instructions: Help Guide for the Intel® System Support Utility
- Once completed, please attach the generated file to your response.
Also, please provide me with crash logs from your system using Windows Event Viewer:
Opening Event Viewer:
- Press Windows + R, type eventvwr.msc, and hit Enter
- Or right-click the Start button → Event Viewer
- Or search "Event Viewer" in the Start menu
Then check the following logs and save each logs:
- Windows Logs → System
- Windows Logs → Application
- Applications and Services Logs → Hardware Events
To save each logs:
- Right-click the log name → "Filter Current Log..."
- Set Logged: Last 24 hours (or when crashes occurred)
- Check: Critical, Error, Warning
- Click OK
- Right-click again → "Save All Events As..."
- Save as .evtx file with descriptive name
- Once completed, please attach the generated file to your response.
If you have any additional questions or need further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Best regards,

Hi, thanks for your help.
There are some answers:
1. The characterization fails immediately, the process does not start at all. When I run a stress test with XTU, the CPU spends its time in throttling state and reaches the 100°C. When using games, CPU stays at 100°C.
2. Crashes occur with default parameters, and when playing games (it works 4/5 minutes, and the PC suddenly stops and restart without error). It also happens sometimes when compiling a video project in Highest Quality with DAVINCI RESOLVE STUDIO.
3. I use the latest version of XTU available on your website, it is installed on the C: with the OS, it is a SSD drive. I installed XTU quite recently, and used it for the first time on this PC. The Windows OS has been installed one year ago.
4. I did not try as administrator, and I restarted the PC and run only XTU without any other application as recommended by the tool.
5. I want to use XTU to underclock my PC because I read some posts saying that by reducing voltage or ratios we can reduce the temperature. I always had issue with this CPU with DAVINCI RESOLVE STUDIO and more recently with Battlefield 6 game, that's why I try to find a way to fix my issues
6. This CPU was purchased on December 30 of 2023.
Thanks

Hi MichaelS90,
Could you please confirm if you’ve already tried a full uninstall and reinstall of Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (XTU), following all the steps in the guide: How to Uninstall the Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)? Sometimes leftover files can cause issues, so if you haven’t done a complete uninstall and reinstall yet, please give it a try.
Here’s what to do:
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run: sc delete XTU3SERVICE
- Delete any folders named Intel® XTU from these locations:
- C:\Program Files\Intel
- C:\ProgramData\Intel (Note: ProgramData might be hidden)
- Also delete the folder named Intel Telemetry under C:\ProgramData.
- Reboot your system.
Once that’s done, download and install the latest version of XTU (10.0.1.31). After installing, please check the following:
- Is the linpack_xeon64.exe file present in this folder? C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility\Binaries
- Is the aioc.onnx file located in this folder? C:\Program Files\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility\Client
Let me know if you still get an error when starting characterization, or if anything else comes up.
Best regards,
