4th Gen CPU's have a long series of fixes in production over 2 years looking at a product PDF. How do I determine which version is built-in by the oem. I would not want one with a bug. Also I have an I7 w/8 cores but I only see 2 & 4 now.

In order to know the specific version available for Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) you would need to contact the computer, I am afraid there is no visibility from our side to know the processor versions delivered to OEM's.

You can check the processor product code here: http://ark.intel.com/ ARK | Your Source for Intel® Product Information you need to filter by processor model and find ordering codes.

Allan.
