The windows boot showed : INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE 0x7B error.

i was getting error INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x7B).I tried to clean reinstall Windows but during the setup installer asked me to "install driver to show hardware" . i selected the VMD driver from the USB stick but the installer shows "Error installing the driver" and does not continue.

My computer is dual booted with ubuntu 22.04.

Hello SiUN,

Thank you for providing the details regarding the INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE (0x7B) error. I understand how frustrating this can be, and I’d like to gather some additional information to help investigate the issue further.

Could you please clarify or provide the following:

  1. Which Intel processor and platform are you using?
  2. Which version of the VMD (Volume Management Device) driver did you use during the Windows installation?
  3. Is your Windows installation UEFI or Legacy BIOS?
  4. Are you installing Windows on a new drive or an existing drive that previously had another OS installed?
  5. Could you confirm whether your Ubuntu installation is on the same drive or a separate drive?
  6. Have you tried changing SATA mode in BIOS (for example, from RAID to AHCI or vice versa) before reinstalling Windows?

Once I have this information, I can guide you with the appropriate steps to resolve the issue.

Regards,
