It is perfectly compatible. The Intel specification lists the highest - not the only - speed that Intel fully validates. All lower speed DDR4 parts will work without issue. Higher speed parts will also work in most cases, but there are dependencies on board design, BIOS implementation, etc. that need to be taken into account (Intel does not validate for these higher-speed dependencies).
