Hello,
I bought an i9 14900KF on Amazon on May 28, 2024.
I received it and installed it on a motherboard also bought for the occasion: an Asus ROG Z690-E Gaming and mounted with an AiO 360mm
I quickly noticed that something was wrong and that the processor was overheating enormously and crashing the computer when I played any game, including games that did not necessarily require a lot of power (like Civilization 5), despite my large cooling system.
I quickly found a solution by manually disabling the Turboboost option in the BIOS and then followed the summer soap opera concerning the microcode defect that caused major instability problems on these processors, and in particular on my 14900KF model
I see today in the technology press that Intel has offered a warranty extension for these processors despite the proposed fix. I have not reactivated the turboboost since but it bothers me because I cannot exploit the full power of my hardware. I would like to be able to benefit from my 14700KF at full power without fearing that it will break permanently.
My computer is my work and entertainment tool, I put a lot of money into my last upgrade to have a latest generation i9 and benefit from a powerful machine. I am quite disappointed with the way things are going but I do not lose hope. I think I disabled the turboboost quickly enough to avoid any irreversible damage, but you can never be sure with cutting-edge technologies like this processor.
I wonder what I should do today: should I contact Intel to get a change of my processor or is the proposed fix really viable? Can I reactivate the turboboost without fear?
What should I do please?
