Hi,
I've recently come into possession of a Kickstarter funded Zettlab AI NAS and found the thermals for the Core Ultra 5 125H to be out of the norm I would expect.
I am (and many others) seeing 100+ temps on a CPU that has been firmware limited to 40% of its potential while copying files to the device and under 1-5% CPU utilisation.
At idle, it hovers above 70 degrees C. I've forced fresh air into the device which saw a 10-20% drop in temperatures and 30% reduction in CPU blower RPM speeds.
I would like to know if an Intel engineer can weigh in and advise (or ideally supply directly quoted specs - or a link to a doc with more than max operating temp) of what normal operating temperatures should be - as the AI NAS community is concerned a 1% load should not see 80-106 degree sustained temps for simple instructions such as file copying.
I intend to supply any details back to the manufacturer as to assist with R&D.

- What are the troubleshooting steps that you tried so far?

Hi Michael,
I'm simply looking for what the operational thermal specifications are for the Core 5 125h.
I can't supply the details requested as the device is a Zettlab AI NAS, model D8 Ultra.

The device itself has a proprietary operating system which provides very little in terms of diagnostics, bar some thermal information and fan RPM speed.
My only attempt was to remove the RAM bay cover on the base of the unit and mount a 120mm Noctua A12x24 G2 fan, powered by a 12v USB fan adaptor to push fresh, cool air into the unit. Doing so reduced the thermals by 10-20% and fan RPM speed by 30%.
Software wise, there is nothing I can do.
I wanted to obtain Intels expected thermal operating ranges for the Core 5 125h, as I believe the thermals demonstrated in the unit are ineffective and inefficient in the current design.

Let me also add that since the processor is now inside an OEM system, they may alter the specification of the chip.

Hi Mike,
I was hoping for more information than is publicly available on the Intel website as it is very vague and only gives the max thermal limit.
I wanted to know more about the intended operating conditions; i.e. what it should ideally operate at under a variety of conditions (idle, 40-50 degree C, 50% load 70-80 degrees C, etc.).
The reason I'd like to know this is because the OEM has it operating in thermal ranges way above what a variety of other OEMs operate the same CPU at - far in excess. For example, pushing over 100+ degrees C for an inbound file transfer is regarded as excessive for an operation utilising the CPU at 1% of load, while the CPU is also throttled to 40% of its operating capability via firmware.
The page linked is one I had previously visited and didn't give anything more than the max thermals.

Hi Mike,
Unfortunately, if I had known the name of the particular document I would have provided that to assist in my initial request.
This may need escalation to the CPU research & development team who will have access to the type of information I seek.
Note: I do not need the entire document, just the intended operating thermal condition information portion. Anyone from Research and Development in the CPU space will know exactly what this means, as the information is required and used by OEM's to ensure their products are operating within intended design parameters - so the information 100% exists, I simply do not know the specific document name.
Alternatively, any enterprise account manager who deals with OEM integrators will know where to find this information, as it is used during product and solution engagement sessions.
