The Intel Core i5-1334U is specced for up to 96GB of DDR5-5200 RAM (total, across both channels) as per this Intel documentation page.
I have pre-ordered a laptop that has a Core i5-1334U, with only a single memory channel available for use. Officially, the company that manufactures the system has certified it for up to 48GB RAM. However, individuals who have already received their preorders (with identical configuration) report that 64GB SODIMM DDR5-5200 sticks work perfectly fine, with no noticeable issues other than the 64GB sticks getting a little bit warmer than 48GB ones.
I hear that the i5-1334U has not been officially tested with 64GB sticks because they were simply not available at the time it was validated. On top of that, back when 48GB SODIMM sticks were new, old systems that were previously certified for 32GB/channel had their documentation updated with mentions of 48GB sticks working as well, with 0 hardware modifications. So is it possible for the same to happen with the new 64GB SODIMM sticks? Can I order a 64GB stick and comfortably assume it's going to be just as functional as a 48GB stick?

Support for 64GB memory single channel can potentially be added by a update to the latest BIOS fitted on the laptop motherboard. It sounds like this is what has happened although the laptop manufacturer is sticking to the lower certified limit of 48GB So there is no absolute guarantee as you are relying on the reported experience of the individuals that have installed 64GB that it will work. Worse case scenario is that only 48GB would be available rather than the full 64GB so it may well be worth trying.

Hi twisted_nematic57,
Thank you for reaching out with your inquiry regarding the Intel Core i5-1334U processor and its compatibility with 64GB DDR5-5200 SODIMM sticks. I appreciate your interest in ensuring optimal performance for your upcoming laptop purchase.
Based on the information you provided, the Intel Core i5-1334U is officially specced for up to 96GB of DDR5-5200 RAM across both channels. While the manufacturer has certified the system for up to 48GB RAM on a single channel, reports from individuals with identical configurations suggest that 64GB sticks are functioning well, albeit with slightly increased temperatures.
As you mentioned, the i5-1334U may not have been officially tested with 64GB sticks due to their availability at the time of validation. However, historical updates to system documentation have shown that newer RAM configurations can be supported without hardware modifications. While we cannot guarantee compatibility, it is possible that the 64GB sticks may function similarly to the 48GB ones.
I recommend consulting with the laptop manufacturer for any official updates or testing results regarding 64GB compatibility. Additionally, if you decide to proceed with the 64GB stick, monitoring system temperatures and performance will be key to ensuring stability.
If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.
Best regards,
Dean R.
