Intel i7 4910 mq processor

i have lenovo w540 thinkpad, i7 4910 mq cpu, 16 gb ram and 256 ssd , running on win 7 pro x64 bit.

i have noticed in the windows event viewer that every time i start up the system i receive the following error :

EVENT ID 37

The speed of processor 6 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 22 seconds since the last report.

WHY AM RECEIVING THIS WARNING MESSAGE?

further , the machine in only 1 1/2 months old.

i have checked the following things:

the power option is set to high performance.

the system is not overheating

i have run the lenovo diagnostic test - all are good.

intel turbo boost is enabled.

Hello Atulrsuri,

These issues normally reside in the BIOS configuration. Based on your description, try the following:

1. Download and update the BIOS from your computer manufacturer site.
2. Search in the BIOS if you have a setting called Intel(R) SpeedStep Technology and disable it, this may or not be available depending on your computer manufacturer.
3. Verify if this warning is present while your computer is running on its battery mode, since the power and performance settings change when using it.

1. the BIOS is upto date

2. Intel SpeedStep Technology is enabled in the BIOS.

3. the issue remains , whether i run the machine on power or battery.

can you please explain me, why this warning occurs at first place?

if i disable Intel SpeedStep Technology , will i face any other issue?

what is Intel SpeedStep Technology and why was it enabled by default?

i would really appreciate, if you could answer my quiries.

The steps provided above are to avoid this problem but it seems issue persists.

My best recommendation is to contact the laptop manufacturer and let them know about this issue.

Thanks for the reply.

maybe I wasn't clear with my previous reply. What I meant was that speedstep technology is present and enabled in the bios. But perhaps, I haven't disabled it.

Every single OEM computer comes already with preloaded settings so this may be the reason why it is enabled by default. As part of the troubleshooting steps you can try disabling it.

I have disabled intel speedstep in the BIOS and the event id 37 warning has gone now.

I hope this won't cause any other issue.
